The Voltaic Solar Backpack by Global Satellite USA lets you to carry stuff and charge your electronic gadgets simultaneously.
The solar panels consist of monocrystalline cells that can generate up to 15 watts of power. It’s not designed to charge your laptop, but the backpack will charge most other electronic toys, such as digital cameras, handheld GPS, cell phones or music players. The pack, made in part from recycled material, has a capacity of 1,850 cubic inches and includes a 3.6 Volt, 4,400 mAh lithium-ion battery, plus a host of AC adapters for popular devices. The company says that four to six hours of exposure to direct sunlight can fully charge “a typical cell phone,” while one hour of sunlight equals roughly three hours of iPod play time. The Voltaic Solar Backpack retails for $250. Phone: (646) 257-4104. www.voltaicsystems.com
