Colligo Marine wants sailors to “go soft” with its lightweight replacements for steel shackles and headsail hanks for synthetic forestays.
Colligo Softies, as they are called, are made from strong and chafe-resistant Dyneema ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene line, according to the company. They feature a lanyard for easy opening, a slip ring for extra security and self-tightening, and a spliced loop connection. How does a softie work? Pull the lanyard to open the splice, slide the loop over the knot, pull the loop closed and slide the slip ring up to the knot. Colligo Softies come in two standard sizes (for safe working loads of 2,000 or 4,000 pounds) and can be customized. Prices start at $29. Colligo Marine, Mesa, Ariz.
