Stopping a boat from taking on water could become a bit easier with the TruPlug from Forespar,

a soft, cone-shaped plug that conforms to the myriad shapes of hull breaches. It's a one-size-fits-all solution that could replace the old-fashioned wooden plug.

"Whether it's a round hole caused by mechanical failure, or an elongated tear due to impact, TruPlug's shape adapts to the leak," promises the distributor. It can be compressed by hand or cut to fit and it also can be forced into hard-to-reach locations. Forespar says it can seal most seacocks, valves, through-hull fittings and hoses. Retailing for $19.95, the TruPlug is a low-cost addition to a boat's safety kit, even though it is not guaranteed to stop or slow all leaks. Forespar, Santa Margarita, Calif.
