Getting the best start in a sailboat race often comes down to having the time right.
Now available in the United States are the square Optimum Time OS 738 and the round OS 463 sailing wristwatches. Both come with a scratch-resistant mineral crystal face cased in stainless steel and a silicone strap with a heavy-duty stainless-steel buckle. Other useful features include: tide and bearing information (OS 463), audible alerts, syncing for spot-on starts and electroluminescent backlit displays for nighttime viewing. Shock- and water-resistant to five atmospheres, the watches also count down and up for handicap races, and have a countdown and repeat feature for one-design racing. Retail prices are $120 (OS 463) and $125 (OS 738). Ocean Racing, Grosse Pointe Farms, Mich. Phone (313)
