Chafe protection

Sailors often use duct tape on lifelines and stanchions to protect sails from chafe, but Waterline’s leather patches provide a proper fix. They’re available in three sizes for different style lines and stanchions, and sewing the cuff (with prepunched holes) closed takes just a few minutes, according to the manufacturer. Each pack contains two protectors, two needles and waxed polyester yarn, plus instructions. $13.95 (U.S.). Waterline Design, Solna, Sweden. www.waterlinedesign.se
