Plot a Western course with your trailer in tow
Looking for a new sailing destination? “Fixing Positions: Trailer Sailing in the West” ($23.95, Sheridan House Inc., 2008) by Matts G. Djos is the perfect guide on how to reach such venues with a boat trailer in tow.
The book covers several regions: Lake Powell, the Pacific Northwest and Canada, Southern California and Mexico. Djos blends personal experience with practical information, such as the best way to get there, the best spots and where to sail. Each chapter includes the historical, geological, cultural and meteorological information of each destination as well as maps and photographs. An appendix wraps up the book, giving tips on trailer maintenance, driving techniques and small boat provisioning and safety.
Djos is a professor emeritus at Mesa State College in Grand Junction, Colo. He is a regular contributor to sailing magazines and this is his first nautical book. For information, visit www.sheridanhouse.com.
