Daring on the Bering Sea
Capt. Sig Hansen has made a name for himself starring in the Discovery Channel's "Deadliest Catch," which draws more than 49 million viewers per season.
In his latest book, "North by Northwestern: A Sea-faring Family on Deadly Alaskan Waters" ($25.99, St. Martin's Press, 2010), Hansen tells tales of his immigrant Norwegian family's struggle to achieve the American dream as commercial fishermen on the Bering Sea.
Hansen, descended from Vikings, has spent the last 20 years as skipper of the commercial fishing vessel Northwestern, which was his father's ship before him. Hansen co-wrote the book with Mark Sundeen, an adventure writer and frequent contributor to Outside, Men's Journal, The New York Times Magazine and National Geographic Adventure.
