For those looking for a suspenseful true tale of a massive storm on the seas comes "Overboard! A True Bluewater Odyssey of Disaster and Survival" ($24, Simon & Schuster, March 2010) by Michael J. Tougias.
In early May 2005, Capt. Tom Tighe and first mate Loch Reidy of the sailboat Almeisan welcomed three new paying crewmembers ready to learn about offshore sailing on a five-day voyage from Connecticut to Bermuda. Though the pair had made the trip numerous times before, nothing could prepare them for the storm they hit on the fifth day. Tighe and Reidy were swept off the boat. The remaining crewmembers managed to cling to the vessel as it was torn apart in the storm.
Tougias is the author of "Fatal Forecast", and "Ten Hours Until Dawn: The True Story of Heropism and Tragedy Aboard the Can Do."
