2011 Calendar of Wooden Boats

Sailing through the year in style

A nautical gift to consider this holiday season is the "2011 Calendar of Wooden Boats" ($15.95, Noah Publications, 2010) featuring the photography of Maine resident Benjamin Mendlowitz. Each month features previously unpublished photographs of classic vessels such as Thetis, a 26-foot Herreshoff Alerion built by the Beetle Boat Shop of Wareham, Mass., that debuted at this year's WoodenBoat Show held in Mystic, Conn.

Each month features a photo caption by marine historian Maynard Bray describing the construction and significance of each vessel, as well as her designer and builder. The 2011 cover features Kid II, a newly-built Gil Smith P-class sloop.

Mendlowitz has been providing images for the calendar since its debut in 1983. His work has been featured in a number of publications, including Soundings, WoodenBoat and Cruising World. He currently lives on the coast of Maine with his family. For information and other products featuring Mendlowitz's work, visit www.noahpublications.com.
