Weather conditions and your boat
In the second edition of “The Boater’s Weather Guide” Margaret Williams aims to prepare anyone who ventures out on the water for the conditions they will inevitably encounter (2011, Schiffer Publishing, $7.95, 160 pages, paperback).
The book is broken into two sections. Part I explains climate and weather, particularly wind speed and direction, visibility and storms. Part II focuses on how weather affects boats of different design and size. Williams offers explanations for what causes conditions to change, how to tell what upcoming conditions are likely to be and how to recognize when foul weather can be expected. The book features more than 50 images, maps and diagrams.
Williams has logged 50,000 nautical miles with her husband, Archie, and acknowledges that weather was usually her greatest concern.
