VIDEO: Mountains of water

A strong, well-found vessel working her way through a heavy sea makes for compelling footage, especially in slow motion, as you’ll see in this video. Tons of water and spray, wind, constant motion — and experienced, competent mariners on the bridge.

Click play to watch the amazing footage.

The last sequence is stunning, a graphic example of why long, deep, narrow vessels are more seakindly than their beamier, flatter, lighter cousins when the proverbial you-know-what hits the fan.

I, also, experienced similar waves manning the bridge while transiting the Atlantic from Norfolk, VA to Gibraltor on a Navy Attack Transport (AKA-56) in 1968.

I have experienced these seas in the Navy 19602 off France while serving on the Willard Keith DD775
