As the America’s Cup World Series prepares for its next racing event Oct. 2-7 off San Francisco, teams continue to launch the AC72 yachts that will debut there.
In July, Emirates Team New Zealand became the first team to launch its AC72. Cup defender Oracle Team USA followed suit Thursday, launching its AC72 in a private team ceremony. Oracle Team USA hoped to go for its first sail today.

Meanwhile, Emirates Team New Zealand continues sea trials of the new racing boat. Veteran team members expressed astonishment at nearing 40 knots of boat speed in just 20 knots of wind.
In related news, sprinter Michael Johnson — once considered “the fastest man alive,” he was the winner of four Olympic gold medals and starred at the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta — showed he was out of his league while sailing with Oracle Team USA at a promotional event.
