KIDNAPPED CHILD - Crewmembers from the Coast Guard cutter Crocodile and Kodiak Island rescue Luke Finch, 3, who was allegedly kidnapped Dec. 1 by his father Paul Martikainen about 120 miles southwest of Sanibel Island, Fla. Crewmembers aboard a Coast Guard Air Station Clearwater, Fla., HC-130 Hercules aircraft spotted Martikainen's 32-foot sailboat.

Hurricane Barrier

An aerial view of the hurricane barrier, top, and Homer's Wharf in New Bedford, Mass., shows about 50 gallons of a Dec. 13 petroleum-based spill. Coast Guard response petty officers were investigating the cause of the spill, which covered the majority of the harbor.
