Great Lakes group wants recreation-friendly EPA head

The Great Lakes Boating Federation is urging the U.S. Senate to make sure recreational boating interests are a top priority for Lisa Jackson, President-elect Obama’s choice as administrator for the Environmental Protection Agency.
Specifically, dredging and infrastructure funding should be directed toward recreational boaters rather than commercial shipping, according to Ned Dikman, chairman of the GLBF.
And while he advocates better regulation of ballast water from commercial shipping, Dikman says it is equally important to let recreational boats “run free and clear of government overregulation.”
