The Boston Globe remembers a former Coast Guard rescue boat skipper who recently died at age 80 and recounts the harrowing tale of his crew helping to rescue crew from the oil tanker Pendleton after the ship split in two off Cape Cod in big seas, high winds and blinding snow.
