The Coast Guard is sharing online its “Top 10 videos of 2012,” which highlight some of the year's most compelling cases from the work done every day by the armed services branch.
Among the subjects in the videos is Petty Officer 2nd Class Jamie Vanacore, a rescue swimmer from Air Station Atlantic City, N.J. Vanacore stars in “So Other’s May Live,” which provides a glimpse into the intense training required to be a Coast Guard rescue swimmer.
The videos are being posted online — one per day — beginning Saturday, and a new video will be posted each day through Dec. 31. Fans can vote for their favorite video by “liking it” on the service’s Facebook or YouTube pages and the winner will be announced Jan. 7 on the Coast Guard Compass.
“Coast Guardsmen are quiet heroes who rarely seek recognition for the important, and many times, dangerous work they do,” said Capt. Bill Kelly, commanding officer of Training Center Cape May. “This gives us an opportunity to educate the public about our service and recognize Coast Guardsmen everywhere for their contributions to our Nation.”
