Regal adds 35-foot coupe

With its enclosed bridge deck and cockpit that allows for air-conditioned or heated comfort, the sport coupe design has gained popularity during the last few years. Regal has added a fourth model - a 35-footer - to its sport coupe fleet.

"The engineers did a remarkable job taking a 35-foot boat and making it feel like a 40-foot boat, using space extremely well," Regal marketing manager Mark Kellum says. "It's the only boat in its class with a fully retractable hardtop. People are sick of canvas. The less canvas, the better."

The Regal 52 Sport Coupe was introduced in 2008, followed in 2010 by the 46 and 42. From the 35's single-level deck, access to the bow is via a walk-through windshield. "You can open the windshield and it feels just like an express cruiser," Kellum says. "Keep it closed and the hardtop closed, and it's back to being a coupe."

The Orlando, Fla., builder has positioned the standup head and shower on the port side of the cabin with the galley directly forward. A settee that begins on the starboard side extends forward and across the centerline, facing aft. The backrest of this settee functions as the aft end of the forward berth, rising with the push of a button, Kellum says. "It's a great use of space and it's not just cute - it's really functional."

Two triangular overhead port lights, light-colored vinyl upholstery and wood veneer combine to make the cabin a bright, open space, Kellum says. The settee's starboard side converts to a double berth, and the aft cabin can be used as a berth, he says. This space, which can be separated from the cabin with a curtain or door, can also be set up as an entertainment area with an optional flat-panel TV.

The 35 carries a beam of 11 feet, 4 inches, and it draws 35 inches. Transom deadrise is 19 degrees. The 13,600-pound boat holds 168 gallons of fuel, 50 gallons of water and 30 gallons of waste. Standard engines are either twin 5.7-liter MerCruiser 350 Magnum MPI 300-hp sterndrives or 5.7-liter Volvo Penta 300-hp sterndrives.

Retail pricing is $277,682 with MerCruiser power and $273,521 with Volvo Penta engines. Performance data were unavailable for the Regal 35 Sport Coupe, which debuted in January at the New York Boat Show.
