Simrad-Yachting introduced the solid-state BR24 Broadband Radar, the world’s first recreational marine Frequency Modulated Continuous Wave radome.

It offers performance and safety benefits, including better target definition and separation in close quarters, according to Simrad. With a minimum distance of 9 feet, the BR24 eliminates close-in vessel blind spots, while offering clear and detailed views of surroundings to a 1/32-nautical-mile-range scale. The new radome transmits at less than 10 percent of the energy of a cell phone, and emits no harmful radiation outside the dome, says Simrad, which increases the choice of mounting spots. Other features include advanced clutter rejection, rapid cold start, instant on from standby, and low power consumption compared to traditional pulse radomes. MSRP is $2,099. Navico, Nashua, N.H.
