The secret of what lies ahead under water has vanished with forward-looking sonar.
Now Interphase Technologies has introduced Ultrascan PC90, which it says is the world's fastest forward-scanning sonar, showing the water column and seafloor ahead of the vessel, detecting dangerous obstacles, shallows or schools of fish.
At the 100-foot range, the Ultrascan provides up to 24 full 90-degree scans per second, which is up to 200 times faster than previous forward-looking sonar, according to Interphase. Current owners of Interphase forward-looking sonar can upgrade to the new Ultrascan technology while using their existing transducers. MSRP is $4,995. Interphase Technologies Inc., Soquel, Calif.
