40-foot boat welcomed at 12-day Atlantic crossing

After sailing more than 3,300 nautical miles, the Class 40 boat Vaquita won line honors in ARC 2012, an annual crossing of pleasure yachts from Gran Canaria to Saint Lucia.

More than 200 boats and 1,200 sailors take part in ARC, or Atlantic Rally for Cruisers.

Vaquita and her all-Austrian crew sailed into Saint Lucia’s Rodney Bay on Friday with an elapsed time of 12 days, 1 hour and 37 minutes.

Skippered by Christof Petter, Vaquita sailed an extreme northerly route from Gran Canaria, clocking speeds of up to 25 knots during the crossing.
