Annapolis, Md.-area resident Robert T. Emmet has an 84,000-pound mess on his hands. That's the weight of his two-masted pilothouse ketch named Orca II.
The vessel separated from its moorings on the South River during a storm about three weeks ago, drifted through a narrow inlet and ended up about a mile away, where it fell against a powerboat and damaged it. The Orca, which has an 8-foot draft, remains stuck in muck in 4 feet of water.
It is expected to take months to lift the boat free of the bottom, Emmet said.
