Good weather put more boaters on the water this Fourth of July weekend and Sea Tow International announced its traffic figures for the Thursday-through-Monday holiday weekend period.
The Southold, N.Y.-based tow service reports its national call center recorded a 31-percent increase to its 800 number over last year’s volume. Between July 1 and 5 Sea Tow received nearly 4,000 calls, responded to nearly 3,000 boater requests for on-water assistance and provided over 1,100 tows to both members and non-members.
Sea Tow chairman and CEO Joe Frohnhoefer said there were fewer boating accidents and other serious problems “in relation to the sheer number of boaters that were on the water.”
The most common weekend assistance calls were for fuel drops, jumpstarts and “soft ungroundings” from encounters with shoals or sand bars.
