The Stuart, Fla.-based Chapman School of Seamanship is appealing to former students to help pay an estimated $375,000 in hurricane damage and subsequent lost revenue.
Officials say the school campus was hit by hurricanes Frances and Jeanne in August and September. The combined storms peeled off roofing material, destroyed the marine electronics laboratory, flooded several student apartments, and damaged the swimming pool patio and canopy. A dock walkway and 16 vessels were also damaged. The engines on four vessels that sank will require replacement or rebuilding.
