ACR to pay $75,000 fine

The Federal Communications Commission fined ACR Electronics Inc. Nov. 1 for marketing a new personal locator beacon, the 406 GPS PLB-200, that had yet to receive FCC approval. The units in question are known as AquaFix for marine use, TerraFix for land use, and AeroFix for aviation use.

The FCC imposed the $75,000 fine for the company’s “apparent liability” in “willfully and repeatedly violating” a section of the Communications Act of 1934.

The beacons now have FCC approval, and ACR says the fine won’t impact product availability.
