Bill Fadeley, a Jacksonville, Fla., business owner and airboat captain, traveled 1,100-mile from Jacksonville to New York City in 1986 aboard an airboat designed for the Florida swampland. The colorful character called the voyage his "Ride To Liberty."
"My boat broke and I had to get it fixed," said Fadeley, laughing. "Then my body broke and I had to get that fixed."
The journey was part record-breaking attempt, but mostly his effort to bring attention to Amnesty International.
After 25 years, his accomplishment is finally being formally recognized.
