Alcohol blamed in fall overboard

Alcohol was involved in the death of a Cobb County, Ga., SWAT officer who allegedly fell overboard when the 22-foot "shore boat" he was on ran into a buoy.

According to an article in The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, a second Cobb police SWAT team member, Sgt. Ken Reda, and a 37-year-old woman were charged with making false statements and obstruction. The pair are accused of lying about who was on the boat and the circumstances around the accident. They allegedly delayed calling 911 by 1-1/2 hours.

Stephens' body was recovered almost 15 hours after an air and water search began, according to the newspaper.
