The Newport International Boat Show will celebrate its 40th anniversary show with a special reunion of America's Cup 12 Meter Era legends.

The reunion is being hosted by the New York Yacht Club and confirmed guests include Ted Turner, Buddy Melges, Bruno Bich, Halsey Herreshoff and Ted Hood, according to show manager Nancy Piffard. The event will be moderated by Gary Jobson, US Sailing president and yachting commentator for ESPN. Jobson also sailed and won the America's Cup with Ted Turner in 1977 and was inducted into the America's Cup Hall of Fame in October 2003 by the Herreshoff Marine Museum.

The reunion takes place 5 p.m. Sept. 16 in Newport, R.I. The event entrance will be at Gate No. 3, located at the end of Commercial Wharf, just off America's Cup Avenue.

"It's a once in a lifetime opportunity to have them all together and that the dates that they can be here coincide with the boat show," says Piffard. "It is a great opportunity for the public to sit in on the discussion."

The reunion runs in conjunction with the 12 Meter North American Championships, taking place in Newport that weekend, as well as the Herreshoff Marine Museum's 17th America's Cup Hall of Fame induction ceremony on Sept. 18.

Entering the Hall of Fame this year are Simon Daubney, Warwick Fleury, Murray Jones, Dean Phipps, Mike Drummond and Halsey Herreshoff.

The Newport boat show will showcase a large selection of both power- and sailboats, featuring manufacturers from all over the world. The show runs Sept. 16-19.
