In Michigan, Saginaw County Sheriff William Federspiel has released the names of two boaters involved in what is presumed to have been a fatal incident on the Saginaw River last Friday.
The two men, David Brigham, 25, and Robert Arthur Todd, 53,both of Vassar, were friends who had gone fishing in a small aluminum boat, Federspiel said.
The boat's motor failed, leaving them "powerless in the middle of the river," Federspiel said. As Brigham and Todd attempted to fix it, a barge was approaching.
"According to David, they never saw the barge coming at them, being pushed by a tugboat," Federspiel said. "They continued to try to get the boat motor fixed and tried to get out of the way, but the barge struck their boat. They were struck and then sucked under the barge."
