Anglers swim for shore after capsize

Two 24-year-old men swam to shore after their boat sank Sunday afternoon in the Gulf off Crystal Beach, Fla., sheriff’s deputies told The Tampa Tribune. Only one survived the ordeal.

The boat began taking on water less than an hour into the trip — between Crystal Beach and Honeymoon Island – and sank after a wave overtook it, deputies said.

The men capsized the boat and initially held on to the hull before deciding to swim to shore.

One wore a life vest while the other used a backpack to stay afloat. The man in the life jacket lost consciousness as they approached shore, deputies said.
