Annual Summer Sailstice ‘holiday’ ready for relaunch

Sailors are urged to get their boats in top shape for Summer Sailstice, an annual celebration of sailing, set for June 20-21.

Held on the summer solstice, Summer Sailstice, founded in 2001 has grown from 200 registered boats in 2001 to more than 2,000 boats today. The idea behind it is to get as many sailboats on the water – worldwide – as a show of solidarity and a love of sailing.

Boaters can sign up here. The actual number of sailors participating is about 10,000 annually, according to the Web site.

The Summer Sailstice joins with Sailors for the Sea in informing and mobilizing sailors to enjoy and conserve the oceanic beauty as well as raising awareness of human impacts on the marine environment and wildlife.
