Aquila, known for its performance-oriented power cats, recently introduced an updated version of the most compact model in its five-member fleet, the Aquila 32S. (The “S” is for sport.) The 32S is one of two outboard-powered Aquilas in the builder’s lineup; the other is the Aquila 36.

The 32S is available with a standard pair of 225-hp Mercury outboards or optional twin 300-hp Mercury Verados. Mercury’s Joystick Piloting System is available as an option. The boat sports 280 gallons of fuel capacity. Performance data was not available at press time.

The 32S sheds the wraparound transom from the previous model and both hull and waterline lengths were increased to improve performance. The outboards find a home farther aft in the new model, for improved sound levels at the helm, and the fiberglass hardtop was reworked to improve the 32S’ sleek lines.

On deck the 32S is part dayboat, part dual console, and is all about fun, relaxation and socializing. It is similar to the model it replaces but shuffles the seating arrangement around for a more open feel. Forward is a spacious, open bow lounge with twin chaise lounges and fold-up armrests, a plethora of cupholders and a pair of stereo speakers. A quick-deploy sunshade with poles can be assembled to shelter the area from the sun.

Abaft of the bow lounge and a wraparound windshield is a two-person helm bench with companion seating across from it, to port. Forward of the companion seating is a console with sink, freshwater mixer, electric grill and stainless-steel fridge. Meals from this area likely will be enjoyed at the dinette that sits abaft of the companion seating. The area is protected by a fiberglass hardtop with sliding hatches. A pair of transom benches round out the seating accommodations.

Though the 32 is described as a sport boat, there are accommodations below for weekend overnighters and longer cruises. Sleeping quarters include a cabin with double berth, hullside glass with opening port, overhead hatch and stowage cabinetry, while the starboard hull houses a wet head with the same ventilation- and light-enhancing hullside glass.

The hull and deck are built with composite materials, vinylester resin and multi-directional fiberglass cloth. Laminates and coring are infused with resin under a vacuum, a process Aquila calls Infusi-Core, which pulls precise amounts of resin through the fiberglass to ensure a lightweight, durable hull and deck structure.

Dayboaters, weekend cruisers and even those who yearn to explore a bit more deeply will no doubt find the refreshed 32S an easy platform to like.
