Bahamas resort offers free wedding — in a shark cage

A Bahamas resort is asking for submissions from couples who want a free wedding on a tropical island, with travel by seaplane and a stay in the honeymoon suite named for Ernest Hemingway — as long as the couple wants to be married in an at-the-dock shark cage with a front-row view of hungry bull sharks arriving for their daily feeding.

The Bimini Big Game Club Resort and Marina put out a call for video submissions from couples looking to accept the challenge of a wedding ceremony in a shark cage.

So far, there have been few takers, but resort management is hoping for a last-minute rush.

Perhaps the lure of a complimentary vacation for the couple, as well as two free nights for wedding party guests who stay four nights, will be enough.

“It’s totally safe, you don’t have to be Scuba-rated and talk about a unique wedding that will be the envy of your friends and family,” Diana Weber, sales and marketing director for the 51-room resort in quaint Alice Town, said in a statement.

Weber said all that couples need to do is submit a video to the resort’s Facebook page and make their best case to be chosen.

The winner will be announced on Dec. 30 based on the most “likes” received on the Facebook video posts.

The wedding must be scheduled prior to May 16. The couple needs to file paperwork two days prior to the wedding ceremony in the Bahamas and must have passports.
