A Louisiana couple say they spent about five hours in a cypress tree after their 14-foot boat sank in a swamp known for its alligator population.
The couple was on Lake Verret to fish when the waters were churned up by Tropical Storm Debby and the boat was swamped.
“It just sunk. It was violent and quick,” the husband said.
Once the boat went under, he said he and his wife swam a couple of hundred yards to cypress trees along the lake’s edge.
It did not take long for alligators to start swimming toward them.
