Boat accident in broad daylight puzzles investigators

A boat crash Friday afternoon on a Wyoming Lake resulted in the drowning of a 16-year-old Dalton girl.

The open powerboat driven by Gregg Sandercock slammed into a slow-moving barge near the west shore of the lake, which is about 8.5 miles east of Tunkhannock. The collision ejected Sandercock's daughter, Delaney, into the lake. Her body was recovered almost four hours later in 50 feet of water.

"We're trying to figure out how four people in a boat would not see that barge," Lake Winola fire chief Marty Bonifanti said Saturday.
