Boat captain: ‘There were flames everywhere’

Four men lived to tell about their escape from a burning commercial fishing vessel Monday morning about three miles east of Nassau Sound.

"There were flames everywhere," Willie Allen, the captain of the 79-foot Ingrid Louis, told The Florida Times-Union. "I wasn’t concerned about me. I was concerned about the guys on the boat.”

The boat sank after a prolonged firefight by the U.S. Coast Guard, Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department and other agencies ended about 9:15 a.m. – five hours after the fire was first reported.
