Boat club’s season delayed by storm damage

Striped bass season started a week ago, yet Tom Smith, the commodore of the Bronxonia Yacht Club, and the other fishermen who gather at the club have had to dedicate precious angling time to rebuilding docks and retaining walls damaged by Hurricane Sandy.

“We had to double our mandatory spring cleanup hours from 16 to 32 to compensate for the storm so we’re about a month behind where we should be,” Smith, 67, who has been a member of the club for more than two decades, told the Daily News.

The club, founded by a group of German immigrants in Clason Point back in 1910, is as much a social club as it is a marina.
