Boat explosion hoax gets eyewitness affirmation

More evidence that the highly publicized fatal boat explosion reported off New Jersey was a hoax has come from a witness on the water, just two miles from the alleged accident site.

The captain of the vessel closest to a reported explosion off of Sandy Hook said he saw nothing but empty ocean where a sinking yacht and 21 passengers should have been.

"This was less than two miles from our position at that moment, in good light and visibility, and nothing was seen such as a vessel emitting smoke, life rafts in the water, or flares being fired," Mark Thirkettle, captain of the Erica XII, said via e-mail Wednesday to the Newark Star-Ledger. "We initiated a search pattern from their last reported position, and could not hail Blind Date via radio, nor see her anywhere."
