Boat for sale burns on sea trial

It was a close call for three people out for a boat ride Tuesday, having escaped without injury after their vessel exploded into a huge floating fireball near the Antioch (Calif.) Bridge.

Just before noon, Wayne Carroll and two perspective buyers of Carroll’s 30-footer had taken the boat out on the San Joaquin River for a test ride.

“Today is a pretty lucky day for the gentleman [Carroll],” Chief Rich Sonsteng of the Contra Costa Co. Fire Department told KTVU News. “Although he refused medical treatment, his hair was singed and he did have a very close encounter with some fire today.”
