Boat handling taught on own boat, in home waters

JAN. 12 -- The Offshore Sailing School , of Fort Myers, Fla., recently launched Custom Training On Your Boat, a new program for private boat owners to learn how to operate their power- or sailboats in their home waters.

Offshore Sailing School instructors, all of whom are US Sailing and US Powerboating certified, will spend a minimum of two days — a maximum of six hours per day — training up to four family members or boat partners. Custom Training On Your Boat is designed to teach boat owners the necessary skills to safely manage their boat in their home waters.

“We have had thousands of requests for private training on our graduates’ boats over the years,” Offshore Sailing School chairman and founder Steve Colgate says in a release. “Now those requests can be fulfilled.”

Custom Training On Your Boat costs $995 per day, not including instructor travel and up to $1,500 for room and board. Additional consecutive days can be purchased for $795 each. At the end of the training session the boat owner will receive a written evaluation for each participating individual and a certificate of training achievement.

Since 1964 the Offshore Sailing School has graduated more than 100,000 adult boaters, and has 10 locations in the Northeast, Florida, the Bahamas and the Caribbean.
