‘Boatbuilding Capital of the World’

On the road along Blue Hill Bay, toward this last town on the pine-clad Blue Hill Peninsula, is a hand-lettered sign that reads, "Welcome to Brooklin Boat Building Capital of the World."

For a town with a year-round population of about 800, Brooklin, Maine's claim to the title of 'Boatbuilding Capital of the World' is no surprise to those familiar with the various local builders who turning out vessels from rowing and sailing dinghies to hard-working lobster boats to luxurious yachts.
