The commodore of the Australian-based Lake Eyre Yacht Club plans to defy a boating ban and sail on the desert waterway this week.
National Parks has halted sailing on the normally dry lake, which recently filled from floodwater, until permission can be obtained from its native title claimants.
The Arabunna people have refused access to Lake Eyre, citing its spiritual significance.
Commodore Bob Backway said he would take up to six people with him to sail on Lake Eyre North this week.
"If everything goes alright there will be two or three boats and we'll go out for a week," he told the Australian Associated Press on Tuesday.
