Boaters urged to stay up to date on state laws

A number of new state and local boating laws, regulations and policy changes are scheduled to take effect in 2014.

The non-profit Sea Tow Foundation reminds boaters to review the laws affecting their home waters, as well as the waters of any other states where they might go boating in the New Year.

“Boating isn’t like driving a car,” Sea Tow Foundation executive director Gail R. Kulp said. “The laws can vary greatly as you cross from one state into another and, unlike on the highway, there isn’t always signage on the water to let you know you have drifted from one state into another with different rules and regulations.”
