Boating season opens badly

As the summer boating season got under way in the mid-Atlantic region, one boat struck another and became airborne in a spectacular crash Saturday on Virginia’s Chickahominy River.

Both boats were occupied by off-duty James City police officers.

Around 1:20 p.m., a 20-foot Bayliner rear-ended an 18-foot Chaparral and was launched into the air. It flew over the Chaparral before landing back in the river.
