Boats crushed as giant floes break free

Giant chunks of melting ice have broken free on the Danube River, crashing hundreds of boats into each other, sweeping away several barges and sinking one of Belgrade, Serbia's trademark floating nightclubs.

The ice had closed large parts of Europe's busy waterway as the region faced a record cold snap. It started shifting on Sunday afternoon because of rising temperatures. There were no reports of injuries.
