Funeral services were held in Stuart, Fla., for Robert J. Skidmore Sr., longtime owner of Northside Marina and a prominent figure in the South Florida marine industry for many years.
Skidmore died May 11 in Charleston General Hospital in Charleston, W.Va., where he had been stricken while on vacation. He was 72.
Skidmore was active in the Marine Industries Association of the Treasure Coast.
Skidmore had been involved with Northside Marina since 1988. He sold the facility late last year and retired. The marina has been home to the Stuart Boat Show for nearly a decade, and Skidmore was considered an important contributor to the growth of the show.
Survivors include his wife, two sons, a daughter, a brother, a sister and seven grandchildren.
