The Coast Guard recently recovered the body of a New Hampshire kayaker who went missing Feb. 27 while crossing from Odiorne Point in Rye, N.H., to the Isles of Shoals.
Hamilton Wood, 59, of Contoocook, N.H., was found March 17 by a kayaker.
Wood’s body, dressed in just his wet suit, had washed up on Lunging Island in the Isles of Shoals, according to Petty Officer Etta Smith of the U.S. Coast Guard First District.
Pennsylvania cold-water expert Charles Sutherland recommends all boaters should test their safety gear by swimming in cold water before they go out. They should always wear a life jacket as well as engage in assisted and self-rescue training.
Safety experts also recommend boaters wear a dry suit when going out in water colder than 40 F.
