Celebrate summer with a worldwide sail

Summer Sailstice - founded by California sailor John Arndt in 2001 and billed as the world's largest sailing celebration - returns the weekend of June 19-20.

In the spirit of the event, sailors around the globe are invited to start the summer season by hoisting their sails for a ceremonial sail in their home waters during the summer solstice weekend.

The goal is to get as many sailboats in as many time zones as possible on the water during a 24-hour period.

As the sun rises and sails are hoisted around the world, all are encouraged to take a picture and sound a blast as the sun crosses their local solar noon. Last year, almost 4,000 sailboats and 15,000 sailors celebrated the Summer Sailstice.
