Coast Guard finds fishing boat operator ‘reckless’

The U.S. Coast Guard has found the operator of a fishing vessel at fault for "wanton and reckless behavior" in connection with a near-miss last August in Wellfleet Harbor, Mass.

The fishing vessel Sadie Mae, which was operated by Wellfleet fisherman David Ziemba, came dangerously close to a sailboat in the harbor last summer, prompting the owner of the sailboat to file a complaint with the Wellfleet harbormaster, according an article in the Provincetown Banner.

The recreational boat had its sails down, and children were swimming in the water nearby.

In a letter to the captain of the Sadie Mae, the Coast Guard accused the Ziemba of operating "in an aggressive manner that endangered both passengers about the sailing vessel and swimmers nearby."
