Coast Guard Foundation hosts salute to Coast Guard

The Coast Guard Foundation, a non-profit organization committed to the education, welfare and morale of all Coast Guard members and their families, host its 29th annual Salute to the United States Coast Guard on Thursday in New York City. Honoring the heroic efforts of Coast Guard men and women during the last year, three awards will be presented recognizing heroism and superior performance in the line of duty:

  • BM2 Benjamin M. Foster, honored for his heroic services during the US Air Flight 1549 emergency landing in the Hudson River in January.
  • AST3 Aaron S. Harvey, awarded for the superior performance he displayed as a swimmer aboard HH-65C during the rescue of a survivor of the catastrophic helicopter crash near Morgan City, Louisiana in January 2009.
  • United States Coast Guard cutter Dallas, recognized for outstanding global maritime security and contributing to international relations during its role in Operation Assured Delivery, a humanitarian aid effort in which the crew delivered 76,000 pounds of humanitarian supplies to more than 100,000 citizens in the Republic of Georgia who were in dire need of international assistance.
