Coast Guard joins ferry crash investigation

The Coast Guard is joining local and other national authorities in investigating an allision between a high-speed ferry and Pier 11 in New York City’s borough of Manhattan.

Fifty-seven injuries have been reported after the ferry Seastreak struck the pier at 8:45 a.m. on Wednesday.

An investigation team from Coast Guard Sector New York administered drug and alcohol tests to the captain. There have been no reports of pollution or flooding of the vessel.

Weather at the time of the incident was reported at 5-knot winds with calm seas at less than one foot. Water temperature was 43 degrees.
